Arsenal’s injury list is still a mile long, but Arsene Wenger is cheered by the news that Thomas Rosicky has been passed “completely fit” after a scan, and will be able to rejoin the squad to face Everton.
He says that captain Cesc Fabregas and Gael Clichy are not too far from fitness, but he prefers to wait for the results of tests on Nicklas Bendtner today before making any announcement. The player himself thinks he will be ready for next weeks game against Bolton.
“Basically the squad is exactly the same as it was before the Bolton game, apart from Tomas Rosicky,” said Wenger.
“We have a good hope that we will get him back in the squad. But he is the only one that should come back.
“He missed out at West Ham because of a groin injury.
“He has little problems but when you go back to the scan it always comes back reassuring. I believe that is down to the fact that he has not played for such a long time and that his body has to readapt again. But now he is back and completely fit.”
“When Bendtner comes back on Friday we’ll assess him,” he said. “But I am not sure when he will come back.
“Fabregas should be available for Bolton and Clichy is not far.”
Denilson will make his comeback game against Everton after being included in the squad for the postponed game in midweek, but Walcott is still sidelined with a rib injury. The Russian Andrei Arshavin has also recovered from his foot problem.
Kieran Gibbs is expected to be out for another two months, while Johan Djourou and Robin Van Persie are unlikely to be back before the end of the season.
So there are only seven players out for the Everton match, but Wenger could (possibly) have three of them back to face Bolton. See, It’s not as bad as you thought!
Everton also have their ongoing problems, with Louis Saha, Jo, Joseph Yobo, Dan Gosling and Sylvain Distin all unlikely to be fit for the weekend.
