Arsene Wenger as gone some way to explain his rotation policy and in fact has stated that it is not something that he favours.
Wenger is reknowned for rotating through different competitions but sees the importance of keeping stability when it counts.
“At the moment, I am not tempted to rotate [my centre backs].
“I do not like to rotate too much in central defence because we are in a position where they have a good understanding and every point is vital so it is not worth to take a gamble if I am not forced to do it.
“Senderos is coming back into a good condition, Silvestre is working very hard and looking very good in training, so we are covered, but of course, you want to keep everybody in match fitness.”
Belgian international Thomas Vermaelen and William Gallas currently form the central defense pair for Arsenal, and although the Gunners concede too much they also score a lot, and indeed the pair’s contribution to the squad’s offensive efforts is undeniable.
“William is playing very well this year and it makes it easier for me to play in this team,” said Vermaelen of his defense partner.
“It is important to have these good players because it makes it easier to fit in.
“Everybody has to realise that if it is going well, you have to keep focused.
“It is very important to do that in every game and then you can win all the time.
“It is the most difficult thing in football, to be consistent.”
Arsenal are waiting on Johan Djourou to return from a knee injury that required surgical intervention, while both Philippe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre are looked upon as “strategic reserves” in what should be a fierce battle for the summit of the EPL table that is expected to commence in 2 weeks time, following the internationals break.
