Aaron says More to come from Wales and me

Wales are set to bring the curtain down on another ultimately failed qualification campaign, but young Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey believes that could all change when qualification for the European Championships in 2012 begin next year.

John Toshack’s men complete their World Cup qualification fixtures with games against Finland and Liechtenstein, but 18-year-old Ramsey is convinced the young Welsh squad will be better prepared for the next campaign.

“Personally, the aim for me was to breakthrough with Wales in this campaign so it has been good for me in that respect,” said Ramsey.

“But on the whole it has been disappointing for us simply for the fact that we have not qualified.

“We’re all hurting about that, I certainly am because before the start I thought we had a good opportunity to try and qualify.

“But I am certain we will come back stronger in the next campaign. It is disappointing to go into these last two games without a chance of qualifying but with the youngsters we have in the side we will definitely be better for what we have been through in the last year or so.

“We have more or less all come through together so we’ll be more experienced now and certainly know what to expect next time.”

And Ramsey believes he has no better tutor than his club manager Arsene Wenger. He added: “Arsene shows a huge interest in the youngsters at Arsenal.

“He said to me at the start of the season that my target this year is to make between 15 and 20 starts. That is the aim for me. But there’s more than that, we have plenty of chats about my game and it is a huge help to me.

“He has given young players opportunities, developed them, and turned them into great players. I hope he can do that with me.”
